What if mermaids were real and humans were cool with that and like we were all friends and everyone had a giant fish tank in their house just in case you had one come over and like u could watch die hard and stuff

The shot of Ariel reaching out through the skylight of her grotto was the last shot to be completed. It took four tries to get the optical effects just right.
They also were almost going to give up on this shot. On the fourth try they said “if we don’t get this right we don’t do it”
There’s already a bittersweetness to this shot, but now knowing that it was the last one ever done and that it nearly didn’t make it into the movie, strangely makes it more so.

I’m sitting here, watching “Tom Thumb” (1958) and geez-a-flip, Alan Young is so young and adorkable in this movie! He has a lovely singing voice too!
